How Houston Garage Door Help works

Houston Garage Door Help is a call service for people with a garage door problem in the Houston area. It is not a garage door company and it does not do the repair itself. When you call, your call is connected to an independent local service provider that handles the questions, the scheduling, the price and the work.

The pages on this site explain the problems people run into most: a door that has come off its track, a broken spring, a frayed cable, an opener that will not respond, and doors at shops and warehouses. Each page lists what to look for, what is safe to check yourself and what to leave alone.

Garage Door Repair FAQs: Houston, TX

Still have questions? Call and ask the provider directly.

+ What should I check first if my garage door will not open?
Check that the opener has power, that the lock button on the wall control is not switched on, that the remote has a working battery, and that the small sensor lenses near the floor are clean and facing each other. If the door feels very heavy when you release it from the opener, or you heard a loud bang, stop and call.
+ Is it safe to replace a garage door spring myself?
We advise against it. Springs hold a great deal of tension, and winding or removing one without the right tools and training can cause serious injury. The same goes for the cables at the sides of the door. Keep the door closed, stop using the opener and call.
+ How do I tell whether the opener or the door is the problem?
Pull the release cord to disconnect the door from the opener, with the door fully closed. If the door then lifts easily by hand and stays open at waist height, the door hardware is probably fine and the opener is the likely cause. If the door is very heavy or sticks, the problem is in the springs, cables or tracks.
+ Can I open a stuck garage door by hand?
Sometimes. The opener has a release cord for this, but it is only safe when the door is closed and the springs are intact. If a spring is broken, the door is crooked or a cable is loose, do not try it.
+ How much will it cost?
The price depends on the problem, the parts involved and the door. We do not list prices on this site because the provider sets them, so ask for the price before work starts and ask what it includes.
+ Who answers when I call?
Your call is connected to an independent local service provider. This website is not a garage door company and does not do the work. The provider handles questions about scheduling, price and the job itself.
+ Can someone come out right now?
That depends on the provider and on when you call. We cannot promise availability for any day or hour. Ask the provider directly at the start of the call, and ask for a time window.
+ Which parts of Houston are covered?
This site has pages for Houston Heights, East Houston, South Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, Pearland and The Woodlands. Tell the person who answers your ZIP code at the start of the call so the provider can confirm it serves your street.
